"I Ain't Beat Yet!"
I have a new motto.
I say it each time I find a solution or solve one of my problems.
I'll give you a few examples.
Like when I fill up my gas tank with my last remaining $20 bucks and it's enough to last me for the week, get me to work and to the grocery store: "I ain't beat yet".
Like when I go food shopping and I only have $100 to buy food to last for the next week and a half and I pull it off: "I ain't beat yet".
Like when I run out of bottled water and I magically find some change and a few loose bills and I am able to buy enough water to hold me over: "I ain't beat yet".
Like when I run out of soap, or shampoo or toothpaste and somehow find a hidden tube, a forgotten bar or bottle, I mutter to myself: "I ain't beat yet".
Like getting an invitation to a party and thinking I have nothing to wear, no money to buy anything new and then look in my closet and find an almost new pair of party shoes and a sexy pair of sleek black pants: "I ain't beat yet".
Like calling a vendor or utility company and asking for and getting a discount or a reduction in some unnecessary invoice: "I ain't beat yet".
Like finding out my precious digital computer equipment that I thought was broken and needed to be replaced is really covered under a world wide recall and will be fixed at no charge: "I ain't beat yet".
Like finding out my favorite items are on sale AND I have dollar-off coupons to boot: "I ain't beat yet".
Life is a challenge today. It takes a bit of smarts to make your way through the maze. Every single time I make it to the other side, I reward myself by saying my favorite motto: "I ain't beat yet". I know that each time I say those words, I rose up to the challenge, changed my perspective and sought another path to bring me along in my journey.
Try it. Ring up your successes. Don't let anyone or anything get you down.
And so it goes.

Hey Cinzea--
Bottled water? Honey, you got a tap? That's all that bottlers of water are gettin their water fromanyway. Filter it with a Brita and you're good to go. Save the pennies and save it for something you really want, like yummy Italian Cheesecake or something totally unhealthy like that. LOL! Miss you! I ain't beat yet either! Life is good. No job but still good. I'll tell you about it sometime soon!
Love ya,
AKB
Hi AKB! Miss you too! I live in the mts and the water from our well is loaded with sulfur. Even though we've installed a $2500 water purification system, until DH installs the last remaining part, a reverse osmosis, there is no way you can drink the water. It's loaded with bleach and ash. The reverse osmosis will get that perfected BUT DH hasn't moved his butt. So, we have to drink bottled water. I gave him an ultimatum this weekend: install the reverse osmosis, then hook up the refrigerator (with ice cube maker) and second filter or else! (or else-I don't know?). I think this time it is going to get done. I'll keep you posted. I ain't beat yet :)
At my Hilo supermarket, they are raising the prices on the cheap stuff first. Pork butt was up 100% in price, but pork chops cost the same as always. Ahi had not gone up, but eggs had, maybe because the ahi is from local sources and the eggs, while mostly from local chickens, are fed with imported grain.
I was just in Seattle visiting our kids and grandkids. Prices are off the scale there. They pay as much as we do in Hawaii for gas, about $3.60 right now.
We found a bargain for us seniors, though: a bus pass that gives you a ride anywhere in the metro area for 25 cents (50 cents at peak hours). I suspect Microsoft and other tech companies subsidize this. The local library within walking distance of our building is a wonderful place to hang out. As well, we have access to free high speed wi-fi in our apartment. This is Seattle, after all!
We are old cheapskates and reasonably affluent, so we ain't beat yet!
Hattie-we've been at it a bit longer and have learned many things along the way. Good for you!
We just paid $3.50 a gallon this morning. Ugh. Glad we both drive fuel efficient cars.
Found you! Fine blog, good advice. Can I put yu in my blogroll?
Life on a Shoestring Budget
